Howe’s Candy Shop
The Cover of this issue features a 1912 photograph of Howe’s Candy
Shop on Center Street with the names and pictures of the women who
worked there.
A featured article describes a presentation by Mrs. Jean Schramm
proprietress of the Enchanted Doll House in Manchester Center of
her collection of old dolls, toys and games. Also pictured is F.M.
Wilson preparing for a balloon ride and aloft on his way to
Barnard, Vermont, along with his passenger Mr. West.
A major section of the issue is given over to a “Who’s Who” of
individuals active in the Historical Society including Mrs. Alton Swan
a genealogist specializing in Rutland County, and Norman E. Favor
who studied architecture and historic sites in Rutland County.
A picture on the back cover shows the Sang Lung Chinese Laundry on
Center Street in business in 1867.
